Summer Art Studios for Teens
entering grades 6-10

Monday-Friday, 1:30-4:30pm (half days)


Explore a medium for a full week, with a teacher who will spark your enthusiasm and challenge your artistic notions.

Choose from animation, papermaking, watercolor, portrait drawing, and more. Sign up for one week, or come for the whole summer!

From flip books to stop motion programs, learn the basics and make your own short film using drawing, painting or collage. We'll view classic and contemporary animation styles to get our inspiration. Finished animations will be uploaded onto YouTube.

Learn about the proportions of the human head while exploring what charcoal, pencil and paint can do to make your drawing come to life. We'll learn about shading, creating a sense of volume, and a little bit about anatomy.

Learn how to make your own paper using traditional papermaking techniques. Using our own handmade paper, we'll design our own books and enhance them with stamp prints, collage, and photos to make a unique statement.

Learn how to write and illustrate comics and how to create and draw distinctive characters and develop a visual vocabulary of emotions, moods and backgrounds.

Digital Photography Digital cameras allow us to take good pictures easily, but how do we make a statement? We'll discuss point of view, composition and content, and learn a bit about the history of picture taking while creating a cohesive group of photos.

Clay is the way for teens who want to learn to hand build sculptural ceramics or throw pots on a wheel. We'll start with the basics and work our way into making several projects that will be fired and glazed.
