GUIDELINES

Poetry: up to four poems, maximum 100 lines per title.
Fiction and essays: up to 3,000 words.

A brief cover note with your submission is useful. We can consider one batch of poems, one story, and one essay per writer; please do not send more work until after you have heard from us regarding the previous submission.

Though we do not have a preference for any particular style of writing (e.g., "formal" vs. "open" poetry), we do have a bias toward material that is clear, non-sentimental, and emotionally alive. We expect contributors to be seriously engaged--both as writers and readers--with their craft. To get a feeling for the kind of work we publish, please visit our web site.

We consider simultaneous submissions, but please notify us right away if your work is accepted elsewhere. At this time, we do not consider material that has appeared in other print or online journals.

  • E-mail submissions to: (Poetry, Fiction, or Nonfiction) Editor at mysticriver@earthlink.net.
  • If you are submitting work in more than one genre, please forward in separate e-mails.
  • Due to our concern about computer viruses, please include your submitted text in the body of the e-mail message. (We won't open attachments.) Also please note home address and phone with e-mail submissions.
  • You may also submit by regular mail, addressed to: Mystic River Review, Arlington Center for the Arts, 41 Foster Street, Arlington, MA 02474. (Note poetry, fiction, or essay on the envelope.) All submissions should be accompanied by SASE.

The Mystic River Review does not assume responsibility for lost manuscripts. Please do not send us the only copy of your work.
