Photography

I am a Boston area photographer who is drawn to “experienced things,” well-worn objects that display the scars of a life of use. How and more interestingly, why, do some things survive in our lives and others fade into insignificance? What energizes and strengthens our relationship to the stories of the “survivor items?” My latest photographs are a personal exploration of family memory, and its vivid connection to the present. Previous work explores the intersection of time, place, and history.
Experiences living and working outside the United States and a 32-year career in Boston as an educator of adult immigrants from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds have nourished my fascination with other languages and cultural perspectives. My photographs honor their subjects and the places they call home.
I have exhibited my photographs in juried group shows and small group exhibitions in a variety of Boston venues. Following 2017 and 2018 service trips to Lusaka, Zambia, I exhibited and sold photographs at fundraising concerts to support the work of Communities Without Borders which supports AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Zambia.
I have taken critique courses with Emily Belz (2015-2016, 2018 - 2020) and I was a member of the 2012 Photography Atelier16 with Karen Davis and Meg Birnbaum at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester.
I live and work in Arlington, MA.
