I turned this heavy bowl on the lathe in my shop. The wood is from a maple tree used for sugaring in Vermont for many years. As the tree aged a fungus began to grow in the tree, giving the wood a distinctive coloring pattern called spalting. The wood is solid and takes on a fine, glossy finish. The bowl can be used for anything dry, such as candy.
