I turned this spalted maple bowl on the lathe in my shop. The wood of from a Vermont maple tree used for generations for sugaring. The tapping process left a distinctive coloring to the wood and as the tree died a fungus left a classic spalting figure in the wood. The wood is solid and takes on a fine, glossy finish. The opening is undercut, creating interesting shadows in the interior.
