Ceramics and collage

AOS 2025 Location:

Arlington Town Hall, Second Floor

I work across ceramics and hand-cut collage, moving between two and three dimensions to explore the porous boundary between the familiar and the imagined. My work is figurative, inspired by the plants and animals that inhabit the wild spaces around us.

In my collages, disparate images are carefully cut apart and reassembled as surreal, fantastical hybrids. Mushrooms, sea creatures, flowers, and vegetables sprout human legs or take on unexpected lives. Through these transformations, I invite viewers to look again at forms they thought they knew and to imagine new kinships among bodies, species, and worlds.

My ceramic work is illustrated with owls, rabbits, deer, and other creatures, often rendered in a stark black-and-white palette. The high contrast suggests an animal's silhouette glimpsed at dusk. Using sgraffito, wax resist, and underglaze painting, I build surfaces through carving, masking, and mark-making. I am especially drawn to placing art directly into the hands and onto objects that can be held and used in everyday life.
