Volunteer Opportunities

As a small nonprofit organization, ACA relies on the help of our supporters and volunteers to be able to offer creative, dynamic and inspiring art programs and events all year-round. We hope you'll consider joining our team of volunteers -- whether you are interested in helping out with one-time events, or offering weekly administrative support, your assistance is vital to our mission and ongoing operations! Please use our Volunteer Application to let us know a little bit about you and which volunteer opportunities you are interested in.

Note: for high school students, volunteer opportunities can be used as community service hours.

Please note: our current ongoing and event-specific volunteer opportunities are indicated below. If you haven't already, please fill out the Volunteer Application to receive more information about these opportunities, including links to sign up for specific volunteer shifts.

  • Ongoing -- Gallery Sitter/Greeter: Gallery Sitters/Greeters help to greet and direct visitors to the ACA (including the Shaira Ali Gallery). Volunteers may also be asked to help with some light administrative tasks during down time and should also feel free to bring a book or laptop.

Strengthening Equity:

Arlington Center for the Arts makes an intentional effort to center access, equity, and inclusivity as we expand our artistic, administrative, leadership, and instructional teams. We recognize this is an effort we needed to put into practice long ago. We are actively educating ourselves and strategizing to uphold more equitable practices from here on out. Historical and institutional barriers have a significant impact on who has had access to what opportunities. At the ACA, we believe these marginalized communities must be centered in our work. With this in mind, ACA strongly encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds including people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, intergenerational voices, people of varying abilities and other marginalized communities to apply to any opportunities that my interest them.

Board of Directors:

Submit your application by November 18, 2024 to join ACA's diverse, dynamic Board of Members!

Get involved! Arlington Center for the Arts (ACA) is currently seeking volunteer leaders to join its nonprofit Board of Directors. We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about arts and community and who offer a variety of skills and perspectives that will strengthen our nonprofit organization through a long-range view, emphasizing resilience and inclusion.

For more than 35 years, ACA has been a cornerstone of the local cultural community. Leading with a mission to inspire joy, nurture growth, and build community through the arts, ACA offers a dynamic mix of classes, camps, exhibits, and special events, like Arlington Open Studios, Arlington Porchfest, and The Great Northeast Jug Band Festival. All told, our programs serve an annual audience of about 15,000 people.

The work of ACA board members is focused on governance. Board members meet bi-monthly to discuss and make important decisions related to the organization’s mission and goals as well as its financial sustainability. Board Members are expected to participate on one board committee, make a personal financial contribution, and serve as ambassadors, expanding ACA’s network of participants, supporters, and donors.

In addition to a passion for arts and community, ACA is searching for board candidates with financial, HR, legal, fundraising, or marketing expertise, as well as those connected to Town government, local nonprofit organizations, communities of color, people with disabilities, and other traditionally underserved/underrepresented populations.

Board meetings are conducted on second Wednesdays in Nov, Dec, Jan, Mar, May, Aug, and Sep from 7pm-9pm. Committee meetings are typically scheduled on weekday evenings tbd during the months in between. We value members' attendance and look forward to hearing new perspectives.

If you share ACA’s vision of a welcoming space where everyone has access to the arts and opportunities to create, connect, and celebrate, please consider joining our board. Complete the form below to submit your application by the deadline on November 18, 2024. An ACA board member will follow-up with you to share more details and further explore the opportunity.
