Counselor Internships

Calling teens ages 15-16! Are you interested in a fun, creative and engaging internship opportunity with ACA this summer? We thoughtfully designed a holistic, developmental program for 15-16 year olds who are interested in being counselors and working with youth. The ACA internship allows interns to spend three weeks at ACA summer camp learning in a classroom setting and engaging with our campers. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Child Development

  • Behavior management, redirection, and modeling behavior/instruction

  • Health and Safety

  • Emotional Intelligence and tools

  • Disability advocacy

  • Self-care and boundaries

  • Communicating with children and families

  • Privilege and intersectionality

  • Cultural Humility

  • Conflict resolution styles

  • Leadership styles, teamwork, communication

  • Resumes, cover letters, and interviews

  • Arts in Advocacy/Arts in the community

Internship Information:

Session 1: Week 1 (6/22 - 6/26), Week 3 (7/6 - 7/10), & Week 4 (7/13 - 7/17)

Week 1 start date is dependent on Arlington Public School calendar
Session 2: Weeks 5 - 7 (7/20 - 8/7)
Session 3: Weeks 8 - 10 (8/10 - 8/28)

Location: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 929 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476
Session 3 is split between St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Arlington Center for the Arts at 20 Academy St, Arlington MA 02476


Hours are 8:45am - 4:00pm, Monday – Friday, with two break periods each day. Upon successful completion of the 3-week internship, a $300 stipend will be awarded to each intern. Alternatively, interns can also utilize the internship for 100 hours worth of community service.

Please note, you will spend time each day learning in a classroom with your peers. Our model does not match other CIT programs. We encourage all teens who complete our internship program to apply to be a counselor with us for the remainder of the summer or following February and April arts camps. This program was designed with the intention of supporting teens with the professional development needed to be successful camp counselors!


This program replaces ACA’s Counselor-In-Training (CIT Program) and Assistant Counselor Program. Interns are only able to complete one session per summer.

Priority Application Period: February 16 - March 30, 2026 (Applications received after this period may not be considered)
Interviews: Interviews for selected candidates will be scheduled March 30 - April 10, 2026
