I am a craft dyer and fiber artist living in Arlington MA. For the past 10 years, I have explored the vast range of techniques developed by Japanese Shibori artists, and the potential for combining them to create wearable art.
I work with dyes old and new, synthetic and botanical; including indigo, the oldest dyestuff known; fiber-reactive dyes, invented in the 1950s; and modern acid dyes. I also use botanical dyes like black walnut hulls, avocados pits, and spent daylily blossoms.
It constantly amazes me how dyeing ties together many disciplines I find fascinating archaeology, surface design, anthropology, chemistry, costume, color, drawing, botany, history and feeds my unending desire to learn something new.
