Quilting brings me solace. The act of methodically stitching up and down, up and down, by hand or by machine, calms my frenzied mind and slows the beating of my heart. The subjects of my work can also bring me peace. I have used quilts to exorcize my frustrations about mass shootings through my Victims Quilt Project or about racism, sexism, and xenophobia through my Protest Series. Over the past few years even that has become too difficult and I have instead focused on making my Botanica and Cyanotypes Series, honoring the beauty and healing that can come from nature.
