Weaving
My working life has been as an editor, spending time with words and the printed page, but weaving has been a way for me to leave the verbal world and to become more visual and more tactile, watching colors merge in surprising ways on my loom and relishing the feel of individual fibers becoming cloth. Weaving also has provided for me a path through family illness and loss, a way to sit in quiet, while both harsh grief and happy memories intertwine. I weave on a rigid heddle loom, and on it I have woven small tapestries and large blankets, but I most enjoy making kitchen towels that are functional and hardworking and scarves that are both fun to wear and comforting—especially in New England’s weather.
