Statement:
The landscape we inhabit and the natural world that touches us, forms our character as human beings in a profound and unavoidable way whether it is a gritty city street or a wondrous natural scene. In my painting I hope I can bring some sense of the worth and distinctive character our surroundings to the viewer. My goal is not to mimic reality but to evoke feelings that arise from a place or setting. This involves a balance between close observation and formal abstraction which heightens the viewer's experience.
