My work explores the connections between inner life, nature, memory, imagination, and the vastness of the universe. I am interested in the moments when the visible and emotional worlds overlap—when a landscape becomes a memory, a color becomes a feeling, or a small creature becomes a symbol for something much larger.
Born in Japan, I later studied Fine Art at the University of New Mexico, where I developed a deep connection to the landscapes, light, colors, and expansive skies of the American Southwest. This experience continues to have a strong influence on my work. At the same time, my Japanese background continues to shape my sensitivity to space, rhythm, impermanence, and the beauty of subtle changes. My artistic practice has grown from living between these different cultural and visual landscapes.
I work intuitively and improvisationally, combining ink, colored pencil, oil pastel, acrylic, and Japanese pigments. I build layers of color, line, texture, and movement, allowing the materials to guide the development of each piece. Rather than beginning with a completely predetermined image, I often allow the painting to reveal its own direction.
My ongoing **“Supernova”** series reflects my interest in transformation. A supernova is an immense moment of destruction and creation, releasing energy and giving rise to new possibilities. I see this as a metaphor for human life: experiences, relationships, challenges, and change can break open what we once knew and create space for something new.
Alongside my paintings, I have developed **Vegan Mouse**, a playful character and creative world that has become another way for me to explore kindness, imagination, nature, and connection. Through Vegan Mouse illustrations, calendars, and other handmade products, I bring my artwork into everyday life. Vegan Mouse represents a gentle and curious way of looking at the world and invites people—especially children and families—to connect with creativity and compassion.
For me, art is not limited to the traditional boundaries of a painting or gallery. It can exist in a small illustration, a calendar on someone's desk, a handmade object, a community art project, or a conversation between people. I enjoy moving between fine art, illustration, and community-based creative work while maintaining the same sense of curiosity and experimentation.
Ultimately, my work is about transformation, connection, and finding beauty in unexpected places. I hope my paintings and Vegan Mouse work give viewers a moment to pause, imagine, and discover their own sense of wonder.
