My name is Noni Erel Armony and I have been making functional handmade pottery for over 20 years. I throw pieces on a wheel and fire in a high fire gas kiln. I work at Mudflat Studios in Somerville, where I also teach. Making pots gives me so much joy and in turn, I hope that my pots give joy to the people who use them.

I love the medium of clay. It’s intimate, meditative, and physical. I use my bare hands to create my pieces, every angle of my fingers and pull of my wrist creating another possibility. While working on the wheel, I think about the user, how they will hold my mug or maybe hug it closer to get warm. One of the things I love about working with clay is making my own canvas to draw on. I get to tell a story from mud to glaze, construction to illustration, fire to fire; a story which someone else gets to take home, and complete.
