Toni Lynn Washington was still in her teens when she started singing with the Hopeton Johnson Jazz Quartet at Louie’s Lounge in Roxbury and soon thereafter other blues and jazz clubs around the country. She recorded her first Billboard charts song, Dear Diary, for the Kon-Ti label, in 1966. Her career has taken her to Japan and Southeast Asia and includes gigs with groups like Sound 70 and Sisters Love, founded by former members of Ray Charles’ back-up singers, the Raelettes. Locally, Ms. Washington has sung with the Saint John’s Missionary Gospel Chorus and the Boston Baked Blues Band as well as the Toni Lynn Washington Band. She has recorded three CDs on the Tone-Cool label and most recently I Wanna Dance on Diane Blue’s label, Regina Royal Records.
